Center of Foreign Language Education

The Foreign Language Education Center is responsible for foreign language teaching to over 15,000 non-English major undergraduate and graduate students from all the schools or academies in Chongqing University. There are six teaching divisions, consisting of about 100 teachers offering nearly 50 courses covering English language skills, literature, culture, international academic communication, and ESP courses. It also offers Russian, French, and Japanese courses for beginners and students at intermediate level.

The Center has constructed three groups of curriculum including English for University Studies (EUS), English for Academic Professional(EAP), and English for Global Professional(EGP). EUS is aimed at assisting students in improving language competence, intercultural communication competence, critical thinking skills, independent learning ability, as well as global competence. EAP courses are designed to meet the students’ needs in English for academic studies. EGP aims to facilitate students’ development of communicative abilities as global professionals.

The Center has made remarkable achievements in its innovative program and cultivation of high-quality internationalized talents. It has been honoured with the Second Prize in National Teaching Achievement Award (2009), and Third and Second Prize in Chongqing Municipality Teaching Achievement Award(2012, 2017), as well as the first prize in Chongqing University Teaching Achievement Award(2008, 2012, 2016). The Center has cultivated one State-level Teaching Team, one National Excellent Course, one Outstanding Teacher of Chongqing Municipality,. Furthermore, 7 First-class courses in Chongqing. After several years’ of innovative practice, the centre has adopted Project-Based Learning (PBL) approach to language acquisition and blended teaching mode, which demonstrate the remarkable features of Chongqing University, and have been accorded national recognition
