    Together For a Shared Future—Virtual EFL Instructional and Research Platform of Universities in Chongqing Was Officially Launched

    On March 3rd 2002, the first representative meeting of the Virtual EFL Instructional and Research Platform of Chongqing was held by the School of Foreign Languages and Cultures (CFL), Chongqing University. Dean of CFL Peng Jing, CPC secretory of CFL Ou Ling, Vice Dean Li Xiaohui, Professor Yu Weishen, Professor Zou Xiaoling and other more than 50 representatives from nine colleges and universities, Higher Education Press, and Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press attended this meeting. The meeting was presided over by Vice Dean Li Xiaohui.

    As an initiator and the one responsible for this Virtual Instructional and Research Platform, Peng Jing firstly extended a warm welcome to attendees. Professor Peng explained the necessity and feasibility of Chongqing University to initiate the virtual platform. She said college English reform is facing a tremendous challenge and we call all colleges and universities in Chongqing should unite together and make joint efforts to cultivate internationalized talents.

    Vice Dean Li Xiaohui gave a detailed introduction to the goals, contents, expected results and coming challenges and opportunities. The Virtual Instructional and Research Platform aims to build an online and offline platform for EFL teachers to share course resources, co-construct courses, and conduct research.

    Representatives from different colleges and universities such as Southwest University, Sichuan International Studies University, Chongqing University of Posts and Telecommunications, Chongqing Normal University, Chongqing Technology and Business University, Chongqing Medical University, Army Medical University and Sichuan Academy of Fine Arts all expressed their own opinions and put forward valuable suggestions about the future of the virtual instructional and research platform.

    Teachers from all the universities have expressed their hopes to further EFL teaching reform and EFL teacher development with the support of the virtual instructional and research platform. Further plans will be shared in recent future.
